BIOGRAPHY: The most complete record of George's life comes from the various papers filed for his military pension:

George is 72 years of age and a resident of Brown Township, Paulding County, Ohio. He enrolled at Cleveland, Ohio under the name of George Keezer on the 22nd day of October, 1862 as a private in the Fifth Independent Co. Volunteer Sharp Shooters and Co. "F" 7th Regiment Veteran Reserve Corp. in the service of the United States in the Civil War.
He was honorably discharged at Washignton, D.C. on March 30, 1865.
George never served in any other service.
George's personl description at enlistment was 5 foot, 9 1/2 inches, dark complexion, hazel eyes, and brown hair. His occupation was a farmer and he was 28 years old.
George was born August 4, 1834 at Penobscott County, Maine.
Since leaving the service his places of residence have been: Defiance and Paulding Counties, OH; Boone County, Nebraska; and then Defiance and Paulding Counties, Ohio.

George is 77 years of age and a resident of Defiance Township, Defiance County, Ohio.
George is claiming the maximum rating on account of the disabilities for which he is now pensioned from which he is totally incapacitated for the performance of manual labor. [His personal description of enrollment cannot be entered because his discharge paper is lost.]

BIOGRAPHY: Oral family history. The family moved to Ohio from Kansas by covered wagon when Herbert was a little boy. They made this trip twice. One time Herbert's younger sibling was bit by a rattlesnake and died. It was either William or Lida May.
George also found on 1860 and 1870 Census; Defiance Township., Defiance County, OH. His father John B. Keezer is also listed on the same 1860 and 1870 Census. "Sometime in the 1870's George Keezer left this area and went to Nebraska. Verbal history has the story of his making two, possibly three trips, with crop failures bringing him back to Defiance."
